EVENT: South West Model Show 2022 at The Tank Museum
Client: The Tank Museum
Location: Bovington, Dorset, UK
THE BIGGEST MODEL SHOW IN THE SOUTH WEST IS BACK!
On Saturday 10th September 2022 we were at the ‘South West Model Show’ at The Tank Museum in Bovington in Dorset, where people could test their skills at trying to top our ‘Fastest Lap’ leader board.
This year’s Autumn model show was bigger than ever – with indoor and outdoor traders and displays, plus sci-fi and more. Traders, exhibitors and modelling demonstrations alongside the real thing. Model planes, ships, sci-fi, trains and, of course, tanks of all types and sizes were available to see, make and purchase.
The South West Model Show aims to help you discover everything you need to know about scale modelling with live workshops and demonstrations, as well as stalls selling the latest modelling kits and accessories, set amongst real tanks and armoured vehicles.
During the event – which is sponsored by Arts University Bournemouth – a squad of Daleks patrolled The Tank Museum, our Scalextric track was there to test people’s speed skills and also they could build a model with Models for Heroes.
Events Coordinator, Jasmine White, “For generations, people have made tank model kits and been inspired to visit The Tank Museum to see the real thing. This event combines two great passions; modelling and military history.”
“Not only will visitors have the opportunity to see the latest modelling creations and meet like-minded people, but they’ll also have the chance to hear from the experts and pick up new tricks and tips on how to perfect their models at home.”
The event had something for everyone of all ages and abilities from novices to experienced glue hardened model veterans. There was a guest appearance from Mig Jimenez, an expert in scale model techniques and founder of AMMO modelling, which made the Autumn Model show extra special.
There was a display of models from all across the spectrum at the show, including trains, planes, boats, science-fiction icons and of course tanks. There were also workshops to explore airbrushing techniques and how to build a model tank, with opportunities to ask the experts about scale modelling.
Other exhibitions included remote-control model trucks and diggers from Bournemouth RC Truck and Construction, mini tanks in action at the large remote control tank display area outside the museum and a recreation of the D-Day landings by the Portsmouth Model Boat Display Team, including pyrotechnics.
