“THE BIGGEST MODEL SHOW IN THE SOUTH WEST!“
On Sunday 11th February we were back at the South West Model Show which was again being held at The Tank Museum in Bovington, Dorset. This was our third year of being part of this event and we were in the ‘World War Two’ hall hosting the ‘Tank Museum Scalextric Competition‘.
We absolutely love the location, the history, the atmosphere and all the smells from the tanks were amazing.
This year’s model show was even bigger than ever – with indoor and outdoor traders and displays, plus sci-fi and more. Traders, exhibitors and modelling demonstrations alongside the real thing. Model planes, ships, sci-fi, trains and, of course, tanks of all types and sizes will be available to see, make and purchase.

At this year’s show you could:
- Test your Scalextrics skills on a bespoke Tank Museum track, including fastest lap leaderboard
- Watch mini tanks in action with remote-control tank displays
- Mini-modellers can enjoy colouring and paper tank building activities
- Get your modelling questions answered by The Tank Museum Volunteer Modellers
- Charity Dalek Squad will be patrolling the site all day. Find out who they want to EXTERMINATE at their Dalek Q&A
The Tank Museum brings history to life, with the world’s best collection of tanks and explosive live displays. Come face-to-face with over 300 huge military machines and hear about amazing experiences as you explore our nine powerful and awe-inspiring exhibitions covering over a century of history. With trails and quizzes, interactive games and exhibits, indoor and outdoor play areas, and free talks and tours (including getting inside a real tank!), you can spend the whole day at The Tank Museum without getting bored. In the spring and summer holidays you can see Tanks in Action and ride round the arena in an M548 tracked vehicle, as well as craft activities during term-time weekends.
As well as the South West Model show, there are special events going on throughout the year at The Tank Museum including TANKFEST, model shows and Tiger Days, as well as a Christmas food fair and VE Day 75th anniversary celebration.
