On Sunday 1st October 2023 we had an action packed day of digital Scalextric racing at the Mclaren Technology Centre in Woking for their ‘McLaren Racing Employee Open Day’ to celebrate their magnificent achievement of ‘60 years of McLaren’ with an amazing open day event for the Mclaren Racing staff and partners.
The day enabled the MacLaren Racing employees and their families to enjoy and see Formula 1 from a different angle, have a tour of some of the facilities and enjoy all the activities laid on for the families, including several racing simulators, 2 pit stop challenges, 2 Batak machines and one of our large mobile digital Scalextric tracks…naturally we raced McLaren slot cars on race track!

It was such a great day. There were two sessions during the day consisting of over 900 people in the morning then another 1400+ in the afternoon. During each session the families were also treated to a driving demonstration of a few iconic cars, including Bruce McLaren’s first race car (Austin Seven) and a Can-Am M8D. As soon as the doors opened at 9am we had a continuous flow of eager racers wanting to race on our Scalextric track. There was a lot of close racing all day, with our McLaren Racing branded ‘Fastest Lap’ leaderboard constantly being updated. At the end of the day we had one racer in the 6 second club, and that was Abbie with a lap time of 6.928 seconds, less than one second faster than 2nd place.
ABOUT MCLAREN: Designed by the globally renowned British architect Lord Norman Foster, the McLaren Technology Centre (MTC) in Woking is a spectacular architectural statement and is the headquarters of the McLaren Group and it’s subsidiaries, including McLaren Racing and McLaren Automotive.
The complex consists of two buildings: the original McLaren Technology Centre, which acts as the main headquarters for the group, and the newer McLaren Production Centre, primarily used for manufacturing McLaren Automotive cars. The main building is a large, roughly semi-circular, glass-walled building, designed by architect Norman Foster and his company, Foster + Partners. By 2015, approximately 1,500 people worked at the Technology Centre.
